ClO2 - Essential for Today's Papermakers
Thousands of tons of chlorine dioxide are produced daily for pulp bleaching. Virtually all ClO2 produced for pulp bleaching is made from sodium chlorate, the principle component of Purate. Chlorine dioxide produces high quality pulp while minimizing waste water environmental issues.

For large bleaching applications, chlorine dioxide is produced in large scale chemical plants like Eka Chemicals' SVP-Lite or SVP-HP technology. These systems are too capital intensive for small scale applications or for use on paper machines as a biocide. Purate® technology from Eka Chemicals provides high quality chlorine dioxide in a cost effective manner for usages up to 5 MT/day. Purate® technology is ideal for providing chlorine dioxide to a paper machine or bleaching applications like bagasse, flax, or sulfite mills.
On an alkaline paper machine, chlorine dioxide provides outstanding control of microorganisms and slime. ClO2 is a dissolved gas in water which makes it particularly effective even in the toughest applications.
